A bye week isn’t the worst thing that can happen to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.
He’s a rockstar. He’s an instant classic.
The Broncos need help in a plethora of positions. They couldn’t stop a sludge mud-slide. The offense is as crisp as a waterlogged graham cracker. But the orange smush fans are continually convinced that Tebow will solve all the debacles.
And what’s worse is that Broncos fans think they actually initiated it.
A billboard, the constant ‘We want Tebow’ chants and an overabundance of #15 jerseys scattered across the Denver-metro area on any given Sunday had no influence on John Fox’s decision to change quarterback. They were as empty as a single caloried boba.
Tebow jumped up in the depth charts. His groupees follow him religiously, but hey, so is he. We all sing his praises.
Tebow is #1 on the billboards, the popularity charts and the depth chart; but that billed-board had nothing to do with it.
I believe the fans did have somethign to do with Tebow taking over. If you take away the fans adoration of Timmy, then the smart first year coach either keeps Orton in or tries out Brady Quinn.
ReplyDeleteBut John Fox knows how influential the fans in Denver are. A couple years ago, Pat Bowlen was getting pressure to fire Mike Shannahan. He said over and over that he wouldn't do it, but the fans kept speaking out agains Mike, and Bowlen had to cut him loose.
And I believe that the reason for firing Josh McDaniels mid-season was only because the fans had turned against him so much. Bowlen was buying into McDaniels plan. Allowing him to control the draft and build the team that he wanted. But after a tough start to a second season, the short sighted Denver fans weren't having it, so Pat let him go.
My point is this. John Fox and even John Elway know how important keeping the fans happy is. That is why he put Tebow in.
Now I do not think for a second that either Fox or Elway expected, or in fact even wanted Tebow to win like he has been doing. They want to do things their way, but the fans and their support for Tebow is standing in the way. As long as Timmy keeps winning, Fox and Elway are screwed.
