Gold Gloves

An MVP or League leader isn’t decided on Opening Day, but somethings are...Gold Gloves.

The highly anticipated announcement of the recipients of these pieces of hardware gives baseball one more day in the sun before the winter months. And while people argue or rejoice over the winners and losers of the awards I do the same.

How did 3 out of 4 Yankee infielders win Gold Gloves and yet not win their own division?

People finally are noticing the great young defensive talent in Denver!!! (Beware guys like Brian Cashman, and Theo Epstein already have them on their evil radars.)

Ichiro would be the BEST player in the world… if he played anywhere other than Seattle.

But my favorite Golden Glover, the one that flashed the leather with grace and power, that makes it look so effortless is… Mark Buehrle. It seems like ages since he made the play that won him the award. Where, on Opening Day, he kicked the ball, picked it up with is glove, did a somersault for dramatic effect, toss it between his legs to Paul Konerko, who snatched it out of the air for the out.

He may have had an unblemished fielding percentage the rest of the year, but that one play on the First Day of the season won Mark the award.
