Okay, maybe that was a little drastic and overblown. But I do believe this isn’t the last we’ve heard of the Cam Newton scandal. Like pop’s Thanksgiving stew (it’s going to be frozen in the outside freezer until March) this isn’t the last we’ve seen of it.
The NCAA will find out and they will get theirs. Adolph Rupp and the Kentucky Wildcats had to forfeit the entire 1952 season, just 2 years after they won the National Title. Reggie Bush gave back his Heisman, and USC is still suffering. They don’t care if you the baddest dude in the all the land, they will nab you if you broke the rules.
The interview with Chris Fowler was misleading. Newton didn’t ever give a straight answer about his father, other than his ‘unconditional love’ for him. And Fowler looked like he held back, like Newton’s publicist gave him a stern talking to about not going into to much depth about the allegations. It wasn’t scripted, but Newton knew what not to say. (And the blandness of the conversation is probably the reason you have yet to see it.) Also the Letterman Top-10 (where I get all my hard-hitting bits, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWztPwFOxiY) had no reference to the money. You would think that the writers would have a hay-day on this. But they, once again, were held back by something. Not good.
Like a big Ruby Tuesday dinner on your 21st birthday… this isn’t the last you’re gonna see of it. So watch out CAM!
Thank you for the recognition "O Diagnosticator of sports info"! Just so you know, though, Pop's is a CAPITAL "P"! And, you can have my Thanksgiving stew whenever you wish - what I have is yours, remember that.
ReplyDeleteWhen Matt was at the CSU camp, I went up and watched. I met Sonny Lubick's son and the recruiting coordinator spoke to me. When the DR went to camps, I went and watched. If Mahoodoo had a practice, I somehow found a way to watch (when I was in town). As Matt contemplated Chadron and Kearney, Matt and I drove to Nebraska and met with the team representatives.
When the DR moved from the dorms to the first house to the new apartment, who was there to help and talk about rent, studies, part-time jobs, etc.?? Pops!
Cam Newton claims to have such a close relationship with his father and Cam doesn't know a THING about the back room deals? Nobody even asks Cam's pops why he went to Mississippi on a "vacation" trip by himself maybe? Cam Newton's father and Cam are so knowledgeable about the NCAA process to know that if they seemingly don't include Cam, then the father can do whatever he wants behind the scenes. The kid goes to Florida, gets recruited like no other athlete probably - he's too good to be invisible!
The NCAA fell for this and worse, the Heisman voters (best football athletes on the planet) didn't have the balls to see through the SCAM (as you poignantly noted). The NCAA put the case on hold (not closed) because now that the Heisman trophy has been awarded, the scrutiny can be ten-fold by plain old reporteres and common folks. With all the visibility in the foreseen future, there will be plenty more opportunities now for a whole cadre of inquisitive reporters to discover new details. The Heisman alumni are too biased (imagine that) - integrity of the award has taken a giant step backward.
Maybe Cam's mom thought Kenny Rogers (the singer/songwriter) was asking Cam's dad if he wanted some singing lessons? "Ohhhhh Ruuuuuuby - Don't take your son to town" -- yep, you betcha. Cam didn't know the $5 computer at FU might have been stolen either - yep!
So, the dad is smart enough to keep Cam COMPLETELY insulated from the deals, but stupid enough to be doing this for a measely $180,000?? There is a deal somewhere for a back-end loaded deal when Cam goes to the NFL. The truth will come out - these stupid people will somehow reveal their stupidity some day.
How long will stupid at quarterback last in the NFL? My guess is not long.
You are right once again "O DR of Diagnostics"! This isn't done!
