Is Kobe really the greatest player ever? No? Greatest Laker ever even? No?
Jerry West and Kobe Bryant’s career mirror themselves oh-so creepily.
· Both have, up to this point, played in 14 seasons.
· West had 19,032 field goals attempted to Kobe’s 19,271.
· Kobe is shooting 83.9% from the line; West shot 81.4%.
· West has 5,366 boards; Kobe has 5,280.
· And Jerry West has 25,192 total points, which is just slightly behind Kobe Bryant with 25,208 points.
But this story is not over.
· With 32 games remaining this season Kobe has already played in 997 games. West has played in 65 fewer games, at 932 games.
· The three pointer was implemented in 1979, unfortunately for Jerry West his career ended 5 years earlier. If West had a 3-point line and shot the same percentage of threes and made the same percentage as Kobe(legitimate since careers mirror themselves so well) then he would have scored 1,250 more points. Thus putting his total at 26,342. Kobe would get there but it would take him til next season to do so.
· Kobe has played with some great players in his career but he has 1606 assists behind Jerry West, who have 4,632 and 6,238 respectively.
Kobe is a great player, but is he really as great as Jerry West? Stats don’t lie… No!
